Justin Bieber offered role in all-Canadian Les Miserables

Les Miserables heads to Canada!

Theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh plans to debut a new version of Les Miserables in Canada. Cameron Mackintosh previously cast Nick Jonas as Marius in the London production of the classic musical – and now he’s interested in having Canadian-born Justin Bieber star in this new production.

He told the Toronto Star he would “love to hear Justin Bieber sing ‘Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.’ Please spread the word that he’d be more than welcome in the show.”

Mackintosh is planning to highlight the 25th anniversary of Les Miserables with new design and staging ideas inspired by Victor Hugo paintings. Hugo penned the 1862 novel that Les Miserables is based on.

The musical is expected to open at the Royal Alex in July of 2012, reports CTV News.

Aside from his latest venture, Mackintosh has been very active in keeping Les Miserables alive. He brought Les Miserables to London, produced the 10th anniversary concert, and formed the worldwide 25th anniversary tour going on now. He is also the producer for the film adaptation of Les Miserables. The movie is scheduled for release in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
