It's hard to imagine a day in 2012 when Justin Bieber (or his fans, his music, his girlfriend, or even his hamster) wasn't making the headlines. So, it's not surprising that in a survey by Postmedia News and Global Television, he beat out all other newsworthy Canadians, including the Prime Minister, to be named "Canadian Newsmaker Of The Year."

This has been a busy year for the newly-legal pop star and his most recent album "Believe." Bieber turned 18, graduated high school, created a viral video hit for his protege Carly Rae Jepsen, and is already making plans to expand his empire with a starring movie role and a sitcom inspired by his life next year. But the biggest Bieber story of 2012 is arguably the on again/off again status of his relationship with 20-year-old actress, singer, and philanthropist Selena Gomez.

The latest updates in the young love saga says that the couple is currently on again, after they were seen canoodling at the airport in Salt Lake City, Utah. The couple was reportedly on their way home from a ski trip with another of Hollywood's hottest music couples: Taylor Swift and One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.

Since Swift and Gomez are best buddies, they must be pretty jazzed about getting back to the double-dating business, especially since Swift is rumoured to be one of the biggest influences in reuniting Bieber and Gomez after they broke up in November. Since then, neither Gomez or Bieber camps has officially confirmed their reunion, but a few public displays of affection have hinted that their rough patch has passed.

To further fan the rumour flames, Bieber recently uploaded a smouldering photo of Gomez to his Instagram page. There's no caption, but it's clear that the shot is from Gomez's July cover photoshoot with Elle magazine.

Gomez, on the other hand, has been sending mixed messages by posing flirtatiously with Ronan Farrow, the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen.

Most fans of Bieber and Gomez seem to be crossing their fingers for a full-fledged reunion in 2013. (Others, though, won't be too devastated if they call it quits for good.) One thing's for sure, though, and that's that Bieber's name won't be disappearing from news headlines any time soon.
