Justin Bieber abandons pet monkey, Mally, in Germany

It's monkey business as usual for Justin Bieber.

The 19-year-old singer has abandoned his pet monkey Mally in Germany, according to a recent article by E! News.

"Justin Bieber's management contacted us and they will give up Mally," Roberto Mioni Col! tro, a representative from the Munich animal shelter housing the capuchin monkey, told the entertainment news source.

"They are asking us for a good home for Mally," he added, stipulating that the shelter was still waiting for an official release document from Bieber's manager.

Coltro stated that he would recommend to the Germany Federal Agency for Nature Conservation that Mally be placed "in a rescue center or some organization for primates," rather than a zoo, which may seek to publicize the primate.

Mally was confiscated by German authorities at the Franz Josef Strass Airport in Munich on March 28, when Bieber did not present the necessary documentation to bring the 17-month-old monkey into the country. The "Boyfriend" singer, who arrived by private jet, was visiting Germany to perform at a concert.

Customs official Thomas Meister told the Associated Press that the monkey must remain in quarantine and that Bieber officially has until May 17 to supply the necessary papers required to free the monkey, or he would lose his claim to him.

"If by May 17 there is nothing, then he loses ownership of the animal and it becomes the property of the Federal Republic of Germany," the spokesman said.

Since the animal's seizure, Bieber has posted two photos of himself with the monkey on Instagram. One picture includes the monkey snuggling up with a stuffed animal.

"Kickin it with og," he wrote in one caption for an Instagram photo of himself with the monkey.

"Mally will take the 'stuffed cat' with him," Coltro assured E! News.

It is unconfirmed where Bieber obtained the exotic animal, which is native to Central America and South America.

Mally is not only pet owned by Justin Bieber to make headlines. Another one of the singer's animals, a hamster named Pac, died of old age on March 12. He was under the care of his fan Victoria Blair, who had received the critter as a gift from the singer only three months beforehand at an Atlanta concert.

"Little hamster heaven," Blair wrote on Twitter shortly after the death.

Earlier this month, Bieber also caused controversy for writing a short message in the guest book at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber," the singer wrote, according to the museum's official Facebook page.

The 19-year-old singer was visiting The Netherlands after he performed a concert in Arnhem on April 13. A museum spokesperson confirmed the visit to ABC News and said "We think he meant it well."
