Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber has helped raise $8,000 for Aucklands Starship Hospital.

The Baby hitmaker announced in November he would donate $1 from every purchase of his Christmas album Under the Mistletoe made in New Zealand.

Those figures came in to $7852.43, and a further $210.71 was donated by fans, bringing the total amount raised through Biebers Believe Charity Drive to $8,063.14.

The singer was not immediately available for comment, but Starship Foundation CEO Brad Clarke said in a statement;

"Starship Foundation is so thankful to have the support of U Music and the Justin Bieber Believe Charity Drive for our national children's hospital.

"Funds raised will go towards the rebuild of the Level 6 Neuroservices and Medical Specialties Wards which treat some of the most complex cases from all over New Zealand."
