Justin Bieber receives Diamond Jubilee Medal for his achievements

Justin Bieber just received a big award in his hometown.

Bieber, 18, was honored with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his achievements as a Canadian in pop culture.

The Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, presented Bieber with the prestigious award, and took to his Twitter account to express his congratulations.

"Was happy to present @justinbieber with a Diamond Jubilee Medal today. http://ow.ly/fxaYa #beliebers," Harper Tweeted on November 23.

The singing sensation also Tweeted about the occasion on November 24, posting: "I met the Prime Minister in overalls lol."

The award is aimed to honor and recognize Canadians who have made significant achievements in their field. In total, around 60,000 Canadians have received the award this year.

More than two weeks before the singer and Selena Gomez reportedly broke up, the male pop star talked about their relationship with Oprah Winfrey in an interview set to air on an episode of her OWN series "Oprah's Next Chapter."

"grey cup and @oprah interview tomorrow. ! make sure! to watch," he Tweeted on November 24.

During the show, the first from the program to air in more than 100 countries, Bieber, one of the most popular singers in the world, discussed how he and Gomez, who has her own slew of fans, maintained a relationship amid media scrutiny. The two are constantly followed by paparazzi, who photograph their reported arguments, their dates and even their hospital visits.

"Me and the Bieber just finished our interview, Good stuff!" Winfrey Tweeted on October 24, along with a photo of herself with the singer. Bieber posted the same photo, with the! caption,! "Me and @Oprah just swaggin it out."

Bieber's "Oprah's Next Chapter" interview is set to air on OWN on November 25 at 9 p.m. ET
