Twitter is abuzz over the fact that Justin Bieber's grandparents were in a car accident Tuesday in Perth County, Ont.

Bieber's mother Pattie Mallette tweeted the news Tuesday that her parents, the pop star's grandparents, were in the single-car crash.

Mallette tweeted:

"My parents got into a car accident today. They flipped into a ditch & totaled the car but thank God they are alive! My dad has broken ribs. Plz pray 4 him 4 quick healing! Count your blessings & forgive ur parents always. U never know what tomorrow holds!!!"

Young girls around the planet are tweeting their concern using the top-trending hashtag: #prayforjustinsgrandparents.

Perth County OPP media relations officer, Kees Wijnands, confirmed to CBC News that Bieber's grandparents, Bruce and Diane Dale, are now safe at home.

"To us, it's not news," Wijnands said. "I didn't even include it on my daily media release. But I guess it's news to everyone else."

Wijnands said the accident was one of about 15 that occurred Tuesday during a winter storm than swept through the rural area between Windsor, Ont., and Toronto.

The accident happened at approximately 1 p.m. in the Township of Perth East. Wijnands said it was one of the first reported Tuesday.

The couple was on a paved concession roads when the small SUV they were in got caught in the slush. The car rolled into a ditch and eventually came to rest on its wheels, Wijnands said.

Wijnands said Bieber's grandfather sustained minor injuries but is fine.
