Justin Bieber makes 11-year-old's dream come true
PORTLAND
Justin Bieber made a local 11-year-old girl's dream come true at the Rose Garden on Monday night.
Megan Ham was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease at birth. Her doctors never thought it would be possible for her to live this long.
Doctors said she will never be able to walk and never be able to talk, but for some reason, when she hears Bieber's music she starts to kick and even smile.
After FOX 12 aired Megan's story in June and sent the link to Bieber via Twitter, Bieber tweeted back a promise to meet her before taking the stage at the Rose Garden in Portland.
Megan's family said she has been listening to Bieber on repeat for days in anticipation of the meeting. It's the first concert Megan has ever been able to be a part of because of her condition.
"I'm just so excited for her," said sister Michaela Ham. "This is so special to her."
And as thousands of fans rushed the Rose Garden Monday just to catch a glimpse of Bieber, many stopped mid scream at the sight of the special girl that's captured his heart.
"We were all really touched by her story," said fan Emily Kyes. "We drove all the way from Idaho for the concert and it's really cool to see her. I think it's awesome she gets to meet Justin, she deserves it."
"People keep coming up to us, and kids are running up to get pictures with h! er, it's just neat," said father Mike Ham.
Megan and her family, along with the teachers who discovered her love for the pop star, met the singer in a private meeting Monday.
FOX 12 cameras were not allowed in, but the family took cell phone video of the special moment.
"It was very emotional, we were waiting along time for her dream to come true," said mother Roxanne Ham. "It's just amazing."
Her family said that Bieber knew Megan by name and walked up to her and gave her a hug and a kiss.
To make sure that Bieber, like Megan, will never forget the moment, her parents handed the teen heartthrob a shirt which reads, "I met Megan Ham."
"He seemed to love it, he held it up and told her he'd never forget her," said Mike Ham. "It was very, very cool."
