Justin Bieber's "Turn to You" was written in honor of his mother, Pattie Mallette. (PacificCoastNews) Anyone remotely familiar with the Justin Bieber story knows that his mother, Pattie Mallette, was only 18 years old when she became pregnant with the future king of Canadian pop. Though Bieber's father, Jeremy, was part of his childhood, Justin has always been quick to show appreciation for his mother and the sacrifices she made as a single mom in low-income housing. And now, just in time for Mother's Day, he's released a song about it.

"Turn to You" is a fairly standard song of inspiration with a straightforward narrative that Beliebers will find familiar: "It was '94, the year that everything started the change from before / You had to be a woman, you were forced to change your ways." However clumsy and obvious the lyrics, it's clearly heartfelt and expertly timed. But it's nowhere near the top of our list of songs to play this Mother's Day.

Check out the video below, as well as our picks for songs better suited to honor your mom.

"Treat Your Mother Right" - Mr. TMr. T, the youngest of 12 children raised in a three-bedroom apartment in the Chicago projects, has credited his success to his mother's love. It's no surprise that his 1984 motivational video Be Somebody...Or Be Somebody's Fool! included a song entirely dedicated to treating moms with respect. If the rhymes seem clumsy it's not all Mr. T's fault: They were written by Ice-T.

"Mama" - Spice Girls

The Spice Girls made a quick play at depth on their first album with the sapfest "Mama," a song about regretting the decisions that most stu! pid teen agers make. If you were that kid who got busted for playing baseball with mailboxes, this is the song for you. The music video is notable for two things: Posh Spice's string bikini top and cameos by all the singers' mothers.

"The Mom Song" - Insane Clown Posse

"The Mom Song" may Michigan horrorcore duo Insane Clown Posse's tenderest song ever, with lyrics like "Mom's lasagna is so good I can't stand it!" to the beat of Tupac's "Changes" (word to Bruce Hornsby). We're just kind of bowled over by the comments on the video. It turns out that Juggalos use YouTube as an emotional support system.

"A Song for Mama" - Boyz II Men

This tune was likely the inspiration for Justin Bieber's "Turn to You," even if it topped the R&B charts when Justin was all of three years old. Don't be put off by the '90s-tastic music video: The song may be sappy, but it's brilliantly executed. If you're hoping to draw happy tears on Mother's Day, be sure to include this one on your playlist.

"I Got It From My Mama" - will.i.am

We generally don't recommend playing will.i.am ever, but if your mom has a good sense of humoror just likes to hear how hot she isthen toss back some mimosas to this ridiculous tune. Just don't expect her to be impressed by the uninspired music video and its Campari product placement.
